On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, Saudi Arabia put to death two Bangladeshi nationals in the Mecca region. The Saudi Interior Ministry named them as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar. (Imagine waking up to an announcement like this by the Interior Ministry in your country). Bangladeshi newspapers give her name as Sweety Akhtar.

## What we know

The news of this gruesome act has been going viral with a fair amount of fake images accompanying it. So what did really happen? Well, yours truly, being an OSINT-certified professional, decided to run a report and sift fact from fiction.

What follows are the verified facts only.

According to the ministry's statement, carried by the Saudi Press Agency and reported by [Khaleej Times](https://www.khaleejtimes.com/world/gulf/saudi-arabia-executes-two-indecent-act-makkah-mosque?ref=threefold.2x1.io) and [Gulf News](https://gulfnews.com/world/gulf/saudi/saudi-arabia-executes-bangladeshi-man-woman-for-indecent-acts-inside-mecca-mosque-1.500711645?ref=threefold.2x1.io), the two were arrested after what it called “an indecent act” (reports on social media say they kissed) inside a mosque in Mecca. They were charged, convicted and sentenced to death under *ta'zir*, the part of Islamic shariah law in which the punishment is left to the judge. The court cited the gravity of the offence and the violation of "the sanctity of both the time and place." The verdict was upheld and a royal order authorised the executions.

The ministry did not say what the act was. As the [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cmde83w13p00o?ref=threefold.2x1.io) put it, the ministry "did not specify the nature of the offending act." A message from Bangladesh's labour welfare office in Saudi Arabia, quoted by [The Daily Star](https://www.thedailystar.net/news/bangladesh/diplomacy/news/execution-2-bangladeshis-makkah-dhaka-seeks-explanation-saudi-ambassador-4301756?ref=threefold.2x1.io), said the two were accused of adultery. Beyond that the record is silent, and we will not guess.

Bangladesh says it knew nothing until it was over. Neither its foreign ministry nor its mission in Saudi Arabia had been told about the case. The two names had even appeared on a list of prisoners Riyadh shared with the Bangladesh consulate in Jeddah, but the list gave no sign that either had been sentenced to death. On October 18, a senior foreign ministry official met the Saudi ambassador in Dhaka and handed over a note verbale, a formal diplomatic note, asking for an explanation.

Nazrul's family lives in Birampur, a village in Brahmanbaria district. His father, Abdul Basir, [told The Daily Star](https://www.thedailystar.net/news/news/executed-saudi-arabia-grieving-father-seeks-justice-return-sons-body-4302501?ref=threefold.2x1.io) that he borrowed Tk 7 lakh to send his eldest son abroad. Nazrul left home on November 10, 2022, and worked as a cleaner. About six months later he was arrested, and he spent more than three years in custody. No one warned the family before he was executed. His father has also [told reporters](https://www.jagonews24.com/en/national/news/97248?ref=threefold.2x1.io) that Nazrul and the woman were not married and that the family did not know her. "I want my son's body brought back home," he said. "If he was executed without just cause, I want justice."

## The sword is real, and so are its limits

On this site we have argued that Scripture gives the civil ruler the sword (Genesis 9:6; Romans 13:4; see [The Sword and the Innocent](https://threefold.life/post/the-sword-and-the-innocent-death-penalty/?ref=threefold.2x1.io)). My hope is that Christians, Atheists, Agnostics and even Muslims who have common sense, would see that our conviction that God has given governments the power to administer justice does not make every execution just. The same Bible that hands the ruler the sword also puts limits on how he may use it. Not in Islam, of course. This is probably the right place to highlight our conviction that “Allah” isn’t any kind of a God, he’s the invention of a 7th-century terrorist known today as Muhammad.

God's law, that is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the Creator, asked for more than an accusation. "At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death" (Deuteronomy 17:6). It warned that "he that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him" (Proverbs 18:17). In Scripture, justice is meant to be seen, tested and answerable.

Folks, this is the Torah we are speaking about right now! That’s 3,500 years ago!

Zero Biblical justice under Islam. No one knows what the two victims have done, what evidence was heard, whether they had lawyers, or whether anyone spoke for them. Their own government did not know a death sentence existed until they were already dead. When a state kills in that kind of silence, nobody outside the courtroom can say whether justice was done at all.

## The stranger in the land

Nazrul was one of more than three million Bangladeshis who live and work in Saudi Arabia, most of them, the BBC reports, in low-paying jobs. Many borrow heavily to get there, as his father did, and are far from anyone who could speak for them.

"Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land" (Deuteronomy 24:14). "The stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself" (Leviticus 19:34). More Torah wisdom completely missing from Islam. So much for Islam being an “Abrahamic” religion. Seems to me it’s neither Abrahamic nor “religion” the way we understand it in the West.

Every one of these workers bears the image of God (Genesis 1:27). So did Nazrul Islam, and so did the woman who died with him, whatever they did or did not do.

Bangladesh is a Muslim country, and its own people and government are asking the same questions. Our concern is with a system that executes foreign workers (and “infidels”) for an offence it will not name, without first telling their country.

## "Neither do I condemn thee"

Christians will think of John 8, when the scribes and Pharisees brought Jesus a woman "taken in adultery, in the very act." We should be careful with that comparison. We don't know the facts of this case, and Jesus did not set aside the Law that day. But notice what He did. He turned the accusers' eyes on themselves: "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her." Then He said to her, "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more" (John 8:7, 11).

That is the Gospel. The Lord says, "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live" (Ezekiel 33:11). In Christ there is mercy greater than any sin, paid for at the cross by the only truly innocent man ever put to death. A court can defend the sanctity of a holy place with the sword. Only the blood of Christ can make a sinner clean. And yes, you guessed it, this good news is completely missing from Islam, no matter how hard some deceived Christians want to push “Chrislam” on us.

## "Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy" (Proverbs 31:9).
